You do everything that you can to stay safe on the road. You drive safely and get the scheduled maintenance. However, emergencies can still happen while you are on the road. You should have an emergency kit with you at all times. It is relatively inexpensive for you to put together an emergency kit. Your roadside emergency kit needs to have the following, first aid kit, cell phone charger, refillable gas jug, duct tape, jumper cables, non-perishable food, water and a small fire extinguisher.
You should get off the road when you have an emergency. However, you don't want to go far away from your car. It will be a lot easier for you to get the help that you need if you are close to your car. Furthermore, you will need to contact roadside assistance, a family member or friend.
